We’re soon approaching my little guy’s second birthday, and I’ve decided to round up his favorite toys at this stage, along with the toys that we’re gifting him. Here is my two year old gift guide!

Two Year Old’s Interests
When I pick out toys for my kids, I first try to identify their interests. I read once that kids are most interested in toys that work on skills that they have just mastered or are just about to master. I wish I remembered where I read it, but I have absolutely found it to be true.
Our little guy loves playing outside and is so interested in lawn mowers, construction, and vehicles. He’s also always loved animals, especially dogs. When he’s playing inside independently he seems to most enjoy puzzles, building blocks, and put together/take apart toys. He’s recently really gotten into Dora the Explorer. These ideas gave me a starting point when it came to shopping for his birthday gifts.
Two Year Old Gift Guide: Toys we have and love
We have all of these toys, and our little guy loves them! Most were either Christmas gifts or hand-me-downs from his older brother and sister. These are the bulk of my two year old gift guide.

Two Year Old Gift Guide: Toys we’re giving this year
We’re gifting our little guy a few new toys for his birthday. He’s so lucky to receive toys from his grandparents, aunts, and uncles too, so we don’t get him a ton of toys. We’d rather put more in his college savings than overwhelm him with toys all at once.
All are affiliate links.
- Nesting and Sorting Buildings and Vehicles
- Dora the Explorer Backpack and Map
- Dora books (recommended age range is 3+, but we think he’ll love it anyways)
That’s a wrap on my two year old gift guide!
That’s it! We’re also gifting him some more practical things, like summer sandals, a new swimsuit for our beach vacation later this year, and a deposit into his collage savings account.
I’d love to know what toys your two year olds love! Please comment below.
