Meal planning is a lifesaver for me as a busy mom of 3! When I take a few minutes to quickly map out my week and plan meals, my whole week runs more smoothly. To make the process more fun, I’ve created a beautiful printable meal planner and grocery list that you can use to plan your meals today!
Why meal plan?
Meal planning takes a few minutes to complete, but it can save a ton of time in the long run. Having a plan for meals can also result in less eating out, which can have a deleterious effect on the budget and the waistline. Having a plan for the food in your fridge and pantry often also results in less food waste.
Meal planning can prevent fewer last minute trips to the grocery to get one or two things for a meal, which saves time and prevents stress.
How to meal plan
There are many different ways to meal plan. Some people plan a week, two weeks, or even a whole month of meals at one time.
I usually sit down and plan one week of meals before I go to the grocery. Once I know what we’re eating for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, then I make a grocery list and buy everything I need for those meals. I also make sure to add in snacks and desserts if we will need those things throughout the week.
To keep it simple, I usually schedule routine recipes that I know well on busy weekdays. One pot meals, soups, sheet pan dinners, quesadillas and stir fries are my favorites. On days that I have a little more time, I’ll try a new or more complicated recipe.
This article has great tips for how to choose recipes. Considering what’s in season, what’s on sale, shopping your pantry first are great ways to pick meals for your plan.
